Tour overview

When Golf Magazine declared La Cana the number one golf course in the Caribbean β€” comparing it to Pebble Beach β€” it wasn't an exaggeration. La Cana is one of those rare places where the setting, the design and the experience all come together in a way that makes every round feel like a gift.

Designed by P.B. Dye and set within the exclusive Puntacana Resort & Club, La Cana is a 27-hole masterpiece made up of three nine-hole courses β€” Tortuga, Arrecife and Hacienda β€” played in 18-hole combinations. Fourteen holes offer views of the crystal-blue Caribbean Sea. Four holes play directly along the ocean. La Cana also made history as the first course in the Caribbean to use Paspalum grass, watered using sea water, keeping the course lush and green year-round.

What happens on this tour

1

Private transfer from your hotel to Puntacana Resort & Club. On arrival, head to the driving range for a warm-up session with range balls, then collect your face towels, tees and cooler with ice and two bottles of water for the cart.

2

You play 18 holes in 4 hours across two of the three nine-hole courses β€” your choice of Tortuga, Arrecife or Hacienda depending on the day and availability. P.B. Dye's signature pot bunkers appear throughout, and the layout shifts constantly between oceanfront holes, coastal views and tropical inland stretches. The halfway house and on-course beverage cart keep you going through the back nine.

3

After the round, the Los PlΓ‘tanos Bar at the 19th Hole clubhouse is the perfect spot to cool down and relive the highlights β€” especially that Arrecife 9th β€” before your transfer back to the hotel.

FAQs

Why does Golf Magazine compare La Cana to Pebble Beach? The comparison comes specifically from the Arrecife 9th hole β€” a grand par-5 dogleg left that runs along the Caribbean shoreline. Golf Magazine wrote that it is "clearly inspired by the famous 18th at Pebble Beach β€” the shoreline is sandier, the water bluer and the journey more challenging." It's the kind of hole that stops you mid-swing just to take it all in. What does 27 holes mean β€” do I play all 27? La Cana has three nine-hole courses: Tortuga, Arrecife and Hacienda. Your round consists of 18 holes played across any two of the three nines in 4 hours. The combination is usually set based on availability and conditions on the day. Are caddies mandatory at La Cana? Caddies are mandatory for non-resort guests. One caddie is assigned per cart for groups of 1–4 golfers. Gratuity of $25 USD minimum per player is customary and paid directly at the course. Can I take golf lessons at La Cana? Yes β€” the Puntacana Golf Academy is on site and offers private lessons, group clinics and intensive programs for adults and juniors, led by American and European PGA Professionals. Contact us when booking if you'd like to add a lesson to your visit. What is the high season rate? High season rates (November through April) have not yet been published for the upcoming season.
