PGA Ocean's 4 Golf β La Romana

Tour overview
In a country with extraordinary golf, PGA Ocean's 4 was just voted the best course in the Dominican Republic β and once you stand on the tee at hole 7 with the Caribbean Sea crashing against the rocks below and the ocean stretching to the horizon ahead of you, it's not hard to understand why.
Located on the southern coast of the island near La Romana, PGA Ocean's 4 is one of the most distinctive golf experiences available anywhere in the Caribbean. This is not a resort course you play because it's convenient. Golfers make the trip from Punta Cana specifically to play it β and they come back.
What happens on this tour
A Course Built Around Four Different Worlds ββ Designer Jack Lund had a specific vision for PGA Ocean's 4: a layout that moves through four distinct landscapes as the round progresses, so no two holes feel like they belong to the same stretch of golf course. The routing takes you from lush tropical interior through lake-flanked fairways, into the dramatic coastal section where the Caribbean is directly in play, and back to the clubhouse through a finishing run that demands every club in the bag.
The result is 7,334 yards of genuinely varied championship golf that plays differently depending on wind direction, time of day, and tide. The course is challenging enough for serious golfers β the second hole alone, with its large lake on the left and demanding approach, has humbled some very good players β but the multiple tee configurations make it accessible and enjoyable for a wide range of handicaps.
The Four Oceanfront Holes β The signature section of PGA Ocean's 4 is what it's named for: four holes played directly on the edge of the Caribbean Sea. Holes 7 and 8 at the turn of the front nine, and holes 16 and 17 as the back nine builds toward its finale. Two par threes, a par four, and a par five β maximizing the variety of the oceanfront experience rather than repeating the same format four times.
When the trade winds are up and the sea is throwing spray across the rocks below, these holes demand complete concentration and reward total commitment to the shot. They are among the most photographed golf holes in the entire Caribbean β and among the most remembered after every round played here.
PGA of America Certified β Third in the World Outside the US ββ PGA Ocean's 4 carries one of the most prestigious affiliations in global golf: PGA of America certified, making it only the third golf course outside the United States to hold this designation β alongside Mission Hills Golf & Resort and PGA Riviera Maya. The course is managed by Troon, the world's largest golf management company operating over 630 locations globally, ensuring the conditioning, facilities, and service standard consistently reflect what that affiliation demands.
Golf Academy & Full Facilities ββ Beyond the championship course, PGA Ocean's 4 offers a complete golf facility: a Golf Academy operating under the Natural Guidance Golf philosophy designed by Toni Planells, with individual and group lessons available for all ages and levels; a practice range and putting green; a Victorian and contemporary clubhouse with terrace, bar and restaurant overlooking the course; and a pro shop with club rental. Whether you're arriving for your first lesson or your fiftieth championship round, the facility is built to accommodate the full spectrum of the game.
Getting Here from Punta Cana ββ PGA Ocean's 4 is located approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from the Punta Cana hotel zone by road β a comfortable drive through the Dominican countryside that passes through local communities and gives you a genuine sense of the island beyond the resort corridor. Adventures Finder includes private roundtrip transfers from your hotel in Punta Cana or BΓ‘varo, so the logistics are completely handled from lobby to first tee and back.

FAQs
Q: What makes PGA Ocean's 4 different from other golf courses in Punta Cana? A: PGA Ocean's 4 is in a different category from the courses available directly in Punta Cana. It is the only golf course in the Dominican Republic with PGA of America affiliation, managed by Troon β the world's largest golf management company β and was voted the Dominican Republic's Best Golf Course in 2025. The four oceanfront holes directly on the Caribbean Sea are genuinely unique: no other course in the country offers this combination of championship quality and coastal drama. The 1.5-hour drive from Punta Cana is an easy decision once you've played it. Q: How far is PGA Ocean's 4 from Punta Cana? A: PGA Ocean's 4 is located near La Romana on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic, approximately 1 hour 30 minutes by road from the main hotel zone in BΓ‘varo and Punta Cana. Adventures Finder includes private roundtrip transfer from your hotel, so the journey is comfortable and completely handled. Plan for a full day β the transfer time plus 18 holes plus the clubhouse experience makes this a genuine day trip. Q: Is the course suitable for high-handicap or beginner golfers? A: PGA Ocean's 4 is a championship layout at 7,334 yards from the back tees and is most enjoyable for golfers who play regularly and are comfortable completing 18 holes at a reasonable pace. However, the course offers multiple tee configurations that significantly reduce the difficulty and length for higher handicaps. If this is your first or second time playing golf, we would recommend starting with Vista Cana's Par 3 or Iberostar BΓ‘varo before playing Ocean's 4. Q: What are the four oceanfront holes? A: The four holes played directly on the edge of the Caribbean Sea are holes 7, 8, 16, and 17. Designer Jack Lund chose to position these holes at the turn of each nine β holes 7 and 8 on the front nine, holes 16 and 17 as the back nine builds to its close. The four holes include two par threes, a par four, and a par five, so every club distance is represented in the oceanfront section. When the wind is blowing from the sea, these holes are among the most demanding in the Caribbean. Q: Is club rental available? A: Yes β a full range of rental clubs is available at the PGA Ocean's 4 pro shop. Confirm your rental requirement at the time of booking through Adventures Finder and we'll include it in the reservation details so everything is arranged before you arrive at the first tee. Q: Do I need to stay at Bahia Principe to play the course? A: No. PGA Ocean's 4 is open to the public and you do not need to be a guest at Bahia Principe or any affiliated resort. Adventures Finder organizes your green fee, cart, and transfers from Punta Cana, so you simply show up and play. Hotel guests at Bahia Principe have the advantage of an on-site shuttle, but outside visitors are fully welcome at the same service standard. Q: Is there a dress code? A: Yes β golf attire is required. Collared shirts, tailored shorts or trousers, and soft-spike or athletic footwear are standard. Metal spikes are not permitted anywhere on the course. The pro shop can advise on any specific dress code requirements on arrival.
