Massive day trip: Total travel time exceeds 10 to 12 hours round-trip, moving from an air-conditioned bus to a luxury catamaran, an open-air safari truck, and a horseback trail.

Bring two pairs of shoes: Wear closed-toe sneakers for the rugged, muddy jungle trail, and pack sandals or water shoes for the waterfall pool and Bacardi Island beach.

Wear your swimsuit: Put your swimwear on under your clothes before leaving, as changing areas along the trail and at the ranch are extremely limited.

Pack cash for tips: Each horse is led by a personal local handler who walks on foot beside you; it is customary to tip them around $5–$10 USD.
